Speaking for Ourselves is a non-profit statewide grassroots organization which promotes self-advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. Speaking for Ourselves is run by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities.  Our organization oversees ten local chapters throughout Colorado.  The mission of Speaking for Ourselves is to empower all people with disabilities.  Teach them how to be self-advocates, and help them become more involved and accepted in their respective communities.

Speaking for Ourselves Goals:

  • To improve leadership skills
  • Teach about rights and responsibilities
  • Influence legislation that directly affects our population
  • Provide opportunities to learn social and business skills
  • Share common concerns
  • Come together and work as a strong team
  • Volunteer in the community
  • To have people everywhere recognize that we are People First.
