Community Bound Leaders
Speaking for Ourselves of Colorado is putting together an exciting new program for our members to develop leadership skills and to spread the word about self-advocacy. This program is open to any members who want to be a part of this statewide movement. Community Bound Leaders will kick off with a two-day workshop in which participants will learn about the history of the disability movement, the nationwide self-advocacy movement, how to develop presentations about self-advocacy, and how to set achievable goals for this project. Members will meet with the program manager who will help each chapter develop presentations tailored to the needs of their communities. We will be making presentations for people with developmental disabilities who have never heard of self-advocacy, community organizations that would like to partner with Speaking for Ourselves and learn about the self-advocacy movement, and to existing Speaking for Ourselves chapters that would like a presentation to encourage and remind members what it means to be a self-advocate. If you are interested in joining Community Bound Leaders, or you think that your organization would benefit from a presentation, please call 877-353-1807 (toll free) or email info@speakingforourselves.org.
